San Marino SAM Italian Ceramic Pottery Smalto Roccia Vase

Product Number: WS9051

A stunning Italian ceramic pottery vase with highly textured Fat Lava style finish, known as Smalto Roccia (rock glaze). Has hand painted Effetto Lacca (enamel effect) San Marino scene. Several factories in the San Marino area of Italy produced ceramics in this style between the 1950's - 1980's. This particular piece was made by the factory Societa Anonima Marina (SAM), which was founded in 1956 by several ex-Marmaca employees. Marked to base "Ceramiche SAM, Rep. S. Marino". Similar items are shown in the excellent book Alla Moda - Italian Ceramics of the 1950's - 70's by Mark Hill.

Measures approx 6.5 inches tall by 3.5 inches in diameter at widest point.

Just a couple of nibbles to the lumpy white glazing, hardly noticeable, and shown in final pictures.
