A stunning large and heavy Scandinavian
green and lilac glass whale paperweight. Made by FM Konstglas
of Ronneby, Sweden, and is signed to base "FM, Ronneby, Sweden, B 878"
. Designed by Benito Marcolin
, pattern number B878
. Benito and his brother Josef founded FM Konstglas in 1961. The lilac layer is made from Neodymium
glass (also known as Alexandrite
glass), which changes colour according to different lighting conditions. It appears lilac in natural sunlight or yellow artificial light, and smokey blue in flourescent/white light (see pictures). This is due to the presence of Neodymium oxide (Nd˛Oł) in the glass.
Measures approx 4.25 inches tall by 10.5 inches in diameter at widest point.
Excellent condition, no chips or cracks, just a couple of small light surface scratches, mentioned for accuracy.
