Robert Lucas Chance, previously a manager at Nailsea, bought the British Crown Glass Company in 1824. He was joined by his brother William Chance in 1932, and from then on the factory became known as Chance Brothers. In 1945 the company was taken over by Pilkington glass. Popular designs from Chance include the Spiderweb range by Robert Goodden, the Fiesta range, and of course the wide range of handkerchief vases produced from the 1950's up until 1981 when the factory was closed.
