Thomas Webb Victorian Burmese Uranium 'Berry & Leaf' Glass Vase

Product Number: WS13733

 Sold / Reference

Description

A wonderful 1890's Victorian Stourbridge glass vase. Made in pink + creamy yellow burmese glass, with hand painted floral "Berry & Leaf" pattern, by the British firm Thomas Webb & Sons. Has a marking to the base which is most likely the pattern number, but this is quite faded and difficult to make out (see picture). Vases and other items in this style and pattern are shown in the Thomas Webb section of the book Mt Washington Art Glass plus Webb burmese. Small amounts of uranium in the glass cause it to glow bright green in UV light.

Please note:  Although this vase is obviously too small to hold a bunch of flowers, it is still classed as a vase.  Small vases like this were often used to hold flowerheads, or miniature "sweetpea" flowers, or simply used as decorative ornaments.

Size

Measures approx 3.25 inches tall by 2.75 inches in diameter at widest point.
