RARE Napoleone Martinuzzi Large Murano Pulegoso Glass Vase

Product Number: WS09765

 Sold / Reference

Description

Here is a very rare magnificent large and very heavy (2 kilos unpacked) Venetian glass vase, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy, circa 1930's. The glass is made up of thousands of tiny air bubbles to give a frothy effect, known as the pulegoso technique, made popular by Venini in the 1930's. The design is attributed to Napoleone Martinuzzi, who designed pulegoso vases like this for several high end factories including Venini, AVeM and Zecchin Martinuzzi. Similar vases are featured in the book "Venetian Glass 1910 - 1960" by Sotheby's, see final picture.

Size

Measures approx 13 inches tall by 9 inches in diameter at widest point.

Condition

Has two flake chips to the applied "handles" (one on each side). Due to the colour, shape and texture of the vase, these are difficult to see unless you are looking closely and at just the right angle. I have tried to show these in pictures 10 & 11.
