AVEM Murano Zanfirico Bizantino / Tutti Frutti White Glass Bowl

Product Number: WS10691

 Sold / Reference

Description

Here is an exquisite large and very heavy (2.3 kilos unpacked) 1950/60's Venetian freeform glass bowl/ashtray, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. Made by AVEM (Arte Vetraria Muranese), part of their "Bizantino" series (commonly referred to by collectors as "tutti-frutti") which was introduced in 1953. Similar items are shown in the book "AVEM, Arte Vetraria Muranese, Artistic Production 1932 - 1972" by Marc Heiremans (pages 106-109, 209, 218 and 222). Decorated with silver leaf, patches of copper aventurine, white zanfirico lattice filigree, twisted ribbon canes, and multicoloured murrines! All of this is surrounded with an outer casing of white glass.

Please note: the plastic stand is for display purposes only and is not included.

Size

Measures approx 3.25 inches tall by 7.5 inches in diameter at widest point.

Condition

No noticeable chips or cracks, but on close examination, two areas of the rim show signs of possible restoration, where small shallow chips may have been ground out. There are also a couple of small indentations to the rim, which look a bit like tiny nicks, but I think are air bubbles which lost their surface. None of these things are noticeable unless you look very closely, and all are shown in final 3 pictures.
