Barovier & Toso Murano Cordonato d'Oro Gold Leaf Glass Bowl

Product Number: WS08749

 Sold / Reference

Description

Here is a wonderful 1950/60's Venetian freeform glass bowl/ashtray, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. This piece was made by Barovier & Toso, and designed by the renowned Italian designer Ercole Barovier, part of his 'Cordonato d'Oro' range. Very similar pieces can be seen in the book 'Italian Glass' by Leslie Pina, pages 31 - 32. Made in clear cased glass with brownish purple spiralling stripes, and loads of gold leaf inclusions encased in the glass. Still bears the original retail label on the base, which reads "Maria Pessani, Corso Italia 78, Bordighera". Maria Pessani is presumably the name of the retailer, and the rest is an Italian address.
