Murano Geode Purple & Blue Sommerso Glass Square Bowl

Description

Here is a wonderful 1950/60's Venetian glass 'geode' bowl/dish, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. These bowls were made by several manufacturers, including Archimede Seguso and Cenedese. Very similar items by these makers are shown in the book Italian Glass: Century 20 by Leslie Pina. In a stunning combination of purple glass cased in a band of blue glass, which is further encased in clear glass, using the renowned Venetian sommerso technique.

Measures approx 2.5 inches tall by 4.25 inches in diameter at widest point.

Condition

Excellent condition, no chips or cracks other than a few miniscule fleabites to the inside rim, and a manufacturing flaw (bit of extra glass) to the outside rim, all shown in final pictures.
