Murano Red & Blue / Lilac Neodymium Sommerso Glass Cat

Description

Here is a wonderful small 1950/60's Venetian glass cat sculpture, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy.  In a stunning combination of red glass encased in pale smokey blue or lilac Neodymium glass, using the renowned Venetian Sommerso technique. Neodymium glass (also known as Alexandrite glass), changes colour according to different lighting conditions.  It appears lilac in natural sunlight or yellow artificial light, and smokey blue in fluorescent/white light (see pictures). This is due to the presence of Neodymium oxide (Nd²O³) in the glass.

Measures approx 2.5 inches tall by 4 inches in diameter at widest point.

Excellent condition, no chips or cracks.
