Thomas Webb Victorian Burmese Uranium 'Hawthorn' Glass Vase

Product Number: WS09354

 Sold / Reference

Description

A wonderful 1890's Victorian Stourbridge glass vase. Made in pink + creamy yellow burmese glass, with hand painted floral "Hawthorn" pattern, by the British firm Thomas Webb & Sons. Very similar items are shown in the Thomas Webb section of the book Mt Washington Art Glass plus Webb burmese, pages 57 - 71. Small amounts of uranium in the glass cause it to glow bright green in UV light.

Please note: Although this vase is obviously too small to hold a bunch of flowers, it is still classed as a vase. Small vases like this were often used to hold flowerheads, or miniature "sweetpea" flowers, or simply used as decorative ornaments.

Size

Measures approx 3.75 inches tall by 3 inches in diameter at widest point.

Condition

Excellent condition, no chips or cracks.
