Fratelli Toso Murano Antique Millefiori Canes Glass Vase

Description

This is a magnificent miniature Venetian glass vase, circa 1900 - 1914, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. Made by Fratelli Toso, similar items are shown in the book 'Venetian Glass - Confections in Glass 1855 - 1914' by Sheldon Barr, pages 114 - 119. Made up of loads of multicoloured floral millefiori murrine canes, with applied handle decoration.

Please note: Although this vase is obviously too small to hold a bunch of flowers, it is still classed as a vase. Small vases like this were often used to hold flowerheads, or miniature "sweetpea" flowers, or simply used as decorative ornaments.

Measures approx 3.25 inches tall by 2.25 inches in diameter at widest point.

Condition

Has a chip or burst bubble to the surface of one of the murrine canes near the base, shown in final picture, hence much lower than usual price for this item.
