Murano Sommerso Purple & Blue Glass Stem Vase - Uranium or Manganese

Description

Here is a wonderful 1950/60's Venetian glass stem vase, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. In a stunning combination of purple glass cased in blue glass, using the renowned Venetian sommerso technique. Glows bright green in UV light, due to the presence of either uranium or manganese in the glass mixture. Hard to tell exactly which, as the glow is duller than the average uranium glass, but much brighter than the average manganese glass.

Size

Measures approx 8.25 inches tall by 2.25 inches in diameter at widest point.

Condition

Just a couple of small nicks to the rim, shown in final picture.
