Description

Here is an exquisite 1950/60's Venetian freeform glass bowl/ashtray, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. Possibly by AVEM (Arte Vetraria Muranese), as part of their "Bizantino" series (commonly referred to by collectors as "tutti-frutti") which was introduced in 1953. Similar items are shown in the book "AVEM, Arte Vetraria Muranese, Artistic Production 1932 - 1972" by Marc Heiremans (pages 106-109, 209, 218 and 222). Decorated with silver leaf, patches of copper aventurine, white zanfirico lattice filigree, twisted ribbon canes, and multicoloured murrines! All of this is surrounded with an outer casing of white glass and an inner casing of cream glass.

Size

Measures approx 2.5 inches tall by 6.5 inches in diameter at widest point.

Condition

The pulled out, pointed corner looks like it may have has some restoration (ground and polished out chip), and there are some tiny black speckles to the inside of the bowl from the manufacturing process, all shown in final pictures.
