Murano Faceted Red & Amber Uranium Sommerso Glass Bowl

Product Number: WS11848

 Sold / Reference

Description

Here is a wonderful Venetian glass bowl/ashtray, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. Several Murano factories have made sommerso glassware in this faceted style, including Mandruzzato, Bucella Cristalli, Campanella, Oball, and V. Nason. Like with most sommerso glass, many inexperienced or untrustworthy sellers would attribute this to a Flavio Poli design for Seguso Vetri d'Arte, but there is no evidence that SVA ever made these (none shown in their factory catalogues, and none found with their labels) and plenty of evidence that other factories did. If other sellers that often make this mistake read this, please, fix your descriptions, and stop misleading your buyers. In a stunning combination of orangey red glass cased in a band of green glass, which is further encased in an angular block of amber glass, using the renowned Venetian sommerso technique. The amber outer layer is quite thick and dark, which makes the green layer hard to spot. The green also has uranium content, which glows under UV light, but again because of the thick amber layer this does not show up very well unless placed very close to the UV bulb.
