John Walsh Victorian Vaseline/Uranium Glass Thorn Vase #2

Product Number: WS10136

 Sold / Reference

Description

A stunning Victorian 1890's British glass "thorn" vase. Consists of a tubular opalescent yellow green glass flower holder with rustic stylised tree root "feet", and pulled out thorns. A similar vase is shown in the book Victorian Decorative Glass by Mervyn Gulliver, page 98. Most likely made by John Walsh Walsh from Birmingham, England. Made in vaseline/uranium glass, which glows bright green in UV light.

Please note: Although this vase is obviously too small to hold a bunch of flowers, it is still classed as a vase. Small vases like this were often used to hold flowerheads, or miniature "sweetpea" flowers, or simply used as decorative ornaments.

Size

Measures approx 3.75 inches tall by 2.5 inches in diameter at widest point.

Condition

Excellent condition, no chips or cracks other than a couple of nicks to the thorns, shown in final picture.
