Description
A stunning
Bohemian
organic glass vase, made in very unusual and quite rare
neodymium
glass (also known as
alexandrite
glass), which changes colour according to different lighting conditions!! The vase appears lilac in natural sunlight or yellow artificial light, and smoky blue in fluorescent/white light (see pictures)!This is due to the presence of neodymium oxide (Nd²O³) in the glass..
Made by the
Zelezny Brod
glassworks, and designed by
Frantisek Zemek
in the 1950's. Similar vases are shown in the book
"Hi Sklo Lo Sklo"
by Mark Hill, pages 48 + 49.
Size
Measures approx 7.75 inches tall by 4.5 inches in diameter at widest point.
Condition
Excellent condition, no chips or cracks.
