Murano Grey & Silver Leaf Glass Globe Vase w/ Effetre Murrine Canes

Description

This is a magnificent Venetian glass miniature globe vase, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. Made in smoky grey glass, filled with silver leaf or mica, and with several large, colourful murrine canes. Technically not classed as millefiori (which means thousand flowers) as there are not enough canes present to qualify. Several of these canes are shown in an Effetre catalogue. Effetre is a Murano company that produces murrine canes which are then bought and used by other Murano factories in their art glass production. The vase has a rough pontil mark to base from the blowing process.

Size

Measures approx 2.75 inches tall by 2.25 inches in diameter at widest point.

Condition

Excellent condition, no chips or cracks. What may look like a chip to the base is just the remains of the "broken" pontil mark, which is quite normal and not considered damage.
