MARKED Thomas Webb Victorian Burmese Uranium Glass Vase

Product Number: WS14114

 Sold / Reference

Description

A wonderful 1890's Victorian Stourbridge glass vase. Made in pink + creamy yellow burmese glass, with hand painted floral vine pattern, by the British firm Thomas Webb & Sons. Marked to base "Thos Webb & Sons, Queen's burmese Ware, Patented, Rd 67648". The design number 67648 was registered by Thomas Webb & Sons in February 1887. The painted pattern is shown in the Thomas Webb section of the book Mt Washington Art Glass plus Webb burmese, page 65. Small amounts of uranium in the glass cause it to glow bright green in UV light.

Please note:  Although this vase is obviously too small to hold a bunch of flowers, it is still classed as a vase.  Small vases like this were often used to hold flowerheads, or miniature "sweetpea" flowers, or simply used as decorative ornaments.

Size

Measures approx 2.5 inches tall by 3.75 inches in diameter at widest point.
