Description

Here is a 1960's Venetian glass bowl, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. This piece was made by AVEM (Arte Vetraria Muranese), part of their "Bizantino" series (commonly referred to by collectors as "tutti-frutti") which was introduced in 1953. Similar items are shown in the book "AVEM, Arte Vetraria Muranese, Artistic Production 1932 - 1972" by Marc Heiremans (pages 106-109, 209, 218 and 222). Decorated with silver leaf, white zanfirico lattice filigree, twisted ribbon canes, and copper aventurine. All of this is surrounded with an outer casing of blue glass, and an inner clear glass casing.

Size

Measures approx 2 inches tall by 5 inches in diameter at widest point.

Condition

No chips or cracks, but does have a small area of possible restoration (maybe a ground out chip) to the inside rim, where there is a flattened, polished area, shown in final picture.
