Product Number: WS07868
Sold / Reference
Description
A wonderful
Victorian
pressed glass basket bowl, made in creamy white
milk
glass (also known as
vitro-porcelain
glass. Made by British company
Sowerby
in the 1880's, and bears their trademark of a peacock on the inside base, as well as a design lozenge. I believe this design is a variant of pattern number
1350
, other items in this pattern are shown on page 7 of Sowerby's
Illustrated Pattern Book No IX
, issued in June 1882. This particular colour range was called
Queen's Ivory
, and contains small amounts of
uranium
in the glass, which cause it to glow bright green under UV light.
Size
Measure approx 2.5 inches tall by 4.5 inches in diameter at widest point.
Condition
Excellent condition, no chips or cracks other than a tiny fleabite to the end of one of the base "feet", shown in final picture.
