Murano Lilac / Blue Venetian Glass Neodymium Deer Sculpture

Description

Here is a wonderful vintage Venetian glass deer sculpture, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. Unmarked, but while researching I was shown a very similar design of a horse (same style and colours, same sitting position and same applied feet and eyes) which had blue and silver "Rooster" Murano label, with the factory code "AM". It is currently unknown which factory this code relates to (they are not the factory initials). Made from neodymium glass (also known as alexandrite glass), which changes colour according to different lighting conditions. It appears lilac in natural sunlight or yellow artificial light, and smoky blue in fluorescent/white light (see pictures). This is due to the presence of neodymium oxide (Nd²O³) in the glass.

Size

Measures approx 5.75 inches tall by 6.25 inches in diameter at widest point.

Condition

Excellent condition, no chips or cracks, just a minor manufacturing flaw to the top of the tail - a sharp blob of glass (not damaged), shown in final picture.
