Fratelli Toso Millefiori Canes Murano Blue, White & Red Glass Vase

Description

This is a magnificent Venetian glass miniature decorative vase, circa 1900 - 1914, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. Made by Fratelli Toso, similar items are shown in the book 'Venetian Glass - Confections in Glass 1855 - 1914' by Sheldon Barr, pages 114 - 119. Made up of loads of blue, white and red floral millefiori murrine canes.

Please note: Although this vase is obviously too small to hold a bunch of flowers, it is still classed as a vase. Small vases like this were often used to hold flowerheads, or miniature "sweetpea" flowers, or simply used as decorative ornaments.

Size

Measures approx 4.5 inches tall by 3.25 inches in diameter at widest point.

Condition

Excellent condition, no chips or cracks, just a couple of patches of ash or grit in the glass from the manufacturing process, very common for these items, and shown in final pictures.
