Wedgwood Speckled Blue + White Glass Elephant Paperweight

Description

A stunning British blue + white speckled glass paperweight sculpture of an elephant (trunk up). Made by Wedgwood, pattern number RSW405 (later SG405), factory label to base (worn). From the range of animals + plants designed by Ronald Stennett-Willson and Paul Miller in the 1970's.

Update: There seems to be a bit of a mystery surrounding this elephant. Although it is labelled Wedgwood, the colours and shape are a little unusual for Wedgwood, and it has been suggested that it may have been made after Caithness took over the Kings Lynn factory formerly owned by Wedgwood, where production of some of these animals continued. In which case, someone has had a bit of a mixup with their labels, or maybe Caithness were using up their stock of Wedgwood labels acquired as part of the takeover. It could also be a one off "frigger" made at Wedgwood, possibly just before the takeover.

Size

Measures approx 5 inches tall by 5 inches in diameter at widest point.

Condition

Excellent condition, no chips or cracks, just a couple of manufacturing flaws - a line/ripple in the glass to one side, and a small dull patch behind the elephants head, all shown in final pictures.
