Barbini Murano Pink & Uranium Glass Vintage Biomorphic Bowl

Description

Here is a wonderful 1950/60's Venetian biomorphic glass ashtray bowl, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. Made by Barbini, no marks or labels, but bowls from this range can be found online with their factory label. In fact at the time of listing this, I have another listed separately, that still has the label. In a stunning combination of pink glass encased in clear glass. Glows bright green in UV light, presumably due to uranium content in the glass mixture. It is unusual to find uranium in clear glass, normally if clear glass glows green under UV, it is due to manganese content, which was used as a decolourant, but the glow from manganese is much duller than uranium, and this bowl glows brightly. Either way, if you collect glass that glows green under UV, you won't be disappointed.

Measures approx 3 inches tall by 6.5 inches in diameter at widest point.

Condition

Excellent condition, no chips or cracks, just a few minor surface scratches to the underneath side.
