Description

Here is a wonderful 1960's Venetian glass swan or duck sculpture, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. Still bears the blue and silver "Rooster" Murano label, with the factory code "AZ". This code was used for the factory SVCC Vetri d'Arte. SVCC (Società Veneziana Conterie e Cristallerie) was the factory that the famous designer Flavio Poli worked for as artistic director (1964 - 1966), after leaving Seguso Vetri d'Arte in 1963. During this time, production moved from glass beads to art glass. I would like to be able to attribute this design to Poli, it is quite possible, but sadly there is not enough evidence to confirm this. In a stunning combination of brown glass cased in amber glass, which is further encased in clear glass, using the Venetian developed sommerso technique.
