AVEM LARGE Murano Bizantino / Tutti Frutti Red Glass Waves Bowl

Description

Here is an exquisite, large and heavy (1.7kg unpacked) 1950/60's Venetian freeform glass bowl/ashtray, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. Made by AVEM (Arte Vetraria Muranese), part of their "Bizantino" series (commonly referred to by collectors as "tutti-frutti") which was introduced in 1953. Similar items are shown in the book "AVEM, Arte Vetraria Muranese, Artistic Production 1932 - 1972" by Marc Heiremans (pages 106-109, 209, 218 and 222). Decorated with silver leaf, patches of copper aventurine, white zanfirico lattice filigree, twisted ribbon canes, and multicoloured murrines! All of this is surrounded with an outer casing of dark red glass. Made in a fantastic shape, with curled over corners that remind me of breaking waves. One of the best pieces I've had from AVEM in my opinion!
