LABELLED AVEM Murano Zanfirico Bizantino / Tutti Frutti Green Glass Bowl

Description

Here is an exquisite 1950/60's Venetian freeform glass bowl/ashtray, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. Made by AVEM (Arte Vetraria Muranese), part of their "Bizantino" series (commonly referred to by collectors as "tutti-frutti") which was introduced in 1953. Still bears the factory label to the base, this label with the star icon is known to have been used exclusively by AVEM. Similar items are shown in the book "AVEM, Arte Vetraria Muranese, Artistic Production 1932 - 1972" by Marc Heiremans (pages 106-109, 209, 218 and 222). Decorated with silver leaf, patches of copper aventurine, white zanfirico lattice filigree, twisted ribbon canes, and multicoloured murrines! All of this is surrounded with an outer casing of green glass.
