Dartington Glass was founded in 1966 in Devon, England, by The Dartington Hall Trust. Frank Thrower was chief designer and co-director, and made over 500 designs for Dartington during his 20 years at the company. Staff at Dartington were trained by skilled glassblowers from Kosta and Orrefors. In 1982, Wedgwood glass bought a 50% stake in Dartington, but sold their share to the Rockware Group in 1989. Dartington was renamed Dartington Crystal in 1987, and returned to private ownership in 1994.
