Description

Here is an exquisite 1950/60's Venetian freeform cream and white glass shell shaped bowl/ashtray, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. Possibly by AVEM (Arte Vetraria Muranese), as part of their "Bizantino" series (commonly referred to by collectors as "tutti-frutti") which was introduced in 1953. Similar items are shown in the book "AVEM, Arte Vetraria Muranese, Artistic Production 1932 - 1972" by Marc Heiremans (pages 106-109, 209, 218 and 222). Decorated with silver leaf, patches of copper aventurine, white zanfirico lattice filigree, twisted ribbon canes, and multicoloured murrine canes.

Measures approx 2.25 inches tall by 6 inches in diameter at widest point.

Condition

Seems to have a very tiny fracture to the middle of one of the curled sections of the rim, shown in final picture.
