FM Konstglas Neodymium Lilac & Blue Glass Fish B850 - Signed

Description

A stunning large and heavy (1.3kg unpacked) Scandinavian blue and lilac glass fish paperweight. Made by FM Konstglas of Ronneby, Sweden. Signed to base "FM, Ronneby, Sweden, B850 - 260". Designed by Benito Marcolin, pattern number B850. Benito and his brother Josef founded FM Konstglas in 1961. The lilac layer is made from neodymium glass (also known as alexandrite glass), which changes colour according to different lighting conditions. It appears lilac in natural sunlight or yellow artificial light, and smoky blue in fluorescent/white light (see pictures). This is due to the presence of neodymium oxide (Nd²O³) in the glass.

Measures approx 6 inches tall by 10 inches in diameter at widest point.

Condition

Excellent condition, no chips or cracks. Has a couple of tiny smooth dimpled areas to the edge of the rim, I'm assuming these are left over from when the base was ground flat and polished. Shown in final picture.
