Description
A wonderful
Victorian
pressed glass basket shaped spill vase in purple & white marbled
malachite
glass, also known as
slag
glass. Marked very faintly to the inside base with their peacock trademark, as well as a registered design lozenge, see second picture. This design, pattern number
1288
is shown on page 5 of Sowerby's
Illustrated Pattern Book No IX
, issued in June 1882.
Size
Measures approx 3.25 inches tall by 3 inches in diameter at widest point.
Condition
Good condition, no chips or cracks, just a couple of lines or grooves in the surface of the glass on one of the handles, shown in final picture. The lines may look like cracks, but are caused during the manufacturing process, and are very common in glass of this type. The handle is in no danger of breaking off.
