Description

A wonderful Victorian pressed glass vase, made in creamy white milk glass (also known as vitro-porcelain glass. Made by British company Sowerby in the 1880's, and bears their trademark of a peacock on the base. This design, pattern number 1281 is shown on page 5 of Sowerby's Illustrated Pattern Book No IX, issued in June 1882, and is known as "Jack and Jill", after Walther Crane's illustrations in a childrens nursery rhymes book. This particular colour range was called Queen's Ivory, and contains small amounts of uranium in the glass, which cause it to glow bright green under UV light.

Please note: Although this vase is obviously too small to hold a bunch of flowers, it is still classed as a vase. Small vases like this were often used to hold flower heads, or miniature "sweetpea" flowers, or simply used as decorative ornaments.

Size

Measures approx 3.5 inches tall by 3 inches in diameter at widest point.

Condition

Has some nibbling to the base and lower corners, shown in final pictures.
