Description
A stunning
opaline/opalescent glass owl paperweight, made by
Seguso Vetri d'Arte, on the island of
Murano, near Venice, Italy. A big thanks to Anita from the excellent
Murano Zoo website who contacted me with this ID. For reference please [
click here]. Still bears the original retailer label, which reads
"3 Vignanuova, K, Firenze".
Update: This design is shown in the excellent book
Seguso Vetri d'Arte - Glass Objects from Murano (1932-1973) by Marc Heiremans, page 136. The catalogue images in the book give the pattern number
9754, designed in 1953-54. This would make
Flavio Poli the most likely designer.
Size
Measures approx 2.75 inches tall by 2.5 inches in diameter at widest point.
Condition
Excellent condition, no chips or cracks other than a minute fleabite to the very tip of the beak, which I have tried to show in final picture. Not visible at all when on display.
