Description

Here is a wonderful, heavy (2.2kg unpacked) and very rare Venetian grey, blue & clear sommerso glass vase, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. Made by Seguso Vetri d'Arte, and designed by Flavio Poli, pattern number 12078, in 1958. Shown in the excellent book Seguso Vetri d'Arte - Glass Objects from Murano (1932-1973) by Marc Heiremans, page 282, where he identifies Flavio Poli as the designer. Also shown in the online archives provided by Archivi del Centro Studi del Vetro. The colourway is described as "grigio blu" (transparent grey covered with blue), and also "notte boreale" (northern night). Has some markings to base, but these are not mentioned anywhere in the book, and were possibly added by someone later, see photos.

Size

Measures approx 7.25 inches tall by 6 inches in diameter at widest point.

Condition

No chips or cracks, just a few small surface scratches and blemishes, mostly to one side, which I have tried to show in final pictures. Unfortunately I have managed to make them look far worse than they really are, as they are only visible when the light hits them just right, as in the photos. See the listing video for a more realistic view, where they are barely noticeable at all. There are also a few tiny white air bubbles in the glass from the manufacturing process, see photos.
