John Deacons Glass Identification Guide + Gallery

Back to Glass Encyclopedia Home

John Deacons began his career as an apprentice in 1967 at the Strathearn glassworks in Crieff, Scotland. Within a year, he was asked to join the startup team for Perthshire Paperweights (also in Crieff), by Stuart Drysdale, his manager at Strathearn. After about 10 years, John left Perthshire Paperweights to set up his own studio just 1 mile away. This studio was named Jay Glass (or J Glass), and was very successful up until the economic crash of 1980, when J Glass was forced to close. However within 6 months, John set up a small studio at his home in Crieff, with no employees and keeping expenses to a minimum. Deacons Glass is still in operation today, and has become a family business, where John is joined by his son Craig and wife Ann.
